Unexpected recent delights:
Governors Island (notably City of Dreams mini-golf, perhaps the greatest competitive leisure sport I've ever experienced?)
Watching Basketball (notably WNBA's Liberty team, and players Janel McCarville and Shameka Christion)
Tommy Hilfiger-brand bras (I guess this evil-ish company is good for something after all?)
Wintergirls (not a "delight" but surprisingly great and epic)
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton / Michel Crichton lore / sexual dreams about Jeff Goldblum
Sephora-brand nail polish (strong shades, does not chip)
Use of quotation marks in Cathy wiki
Did not "take" to lately:
Tribe-brand hummus (almost turned me off hummus entirely until reminded its worth by Trader Joe's-brand)
Green Giant-brand baby carrots (look out, they get...greasy)
EAT Records "going green" and making you bring your own cup for iced coffee
The order in which the characters were killed off in Alien
Astoria
Always a delight:
Tom's-brand shoes AND toothpaste
Five Leaves meats, Urban Rustic sandwiches (Tahawus!)
Built By Wendy / the act of saving up a gift certificate for months and months and finally using it
EAT Records CSA

just had a fight with housemates: they claim jeff goldblum is "not hot"
wth nobody here "gets me"
what i;m trying to say is:
independence day is the best movie
i haven't seen independence day but obvi he is a babe as dr. ian malcolm and i would guess he is totally hot in PITTSBURGH, his meta-documentary about being a song and dance man from the great steel city returning home to be harold hill in the music man, is somehow even hotter now, what i'm trying to say is, your housemates don't "get" anything
http://www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi2242969881/
this doesn't look "good" but it represents so many things that are important, you know?
i need to see that movie, it combines everything i love
I've been so curious to read "Wintergirls." Do you have your own copy? Can I borrow it?
frankie: i took it out of the library - interloaned it, only had to wait, like, a week.
is speak good? the wiki synopsis left me mixed.
amy: please wait for me to watch that, i would feel to uncomfortable watching it alone.
I loved "Speak," but I was young at the time. As I recall, the characters are really vivid, and the book has a great feel for how high school actually is (no fake cheerleader/nerd hierarchies here). The only problem is that [SPOILER] the main character is a rape victim, and the author sets up this truly unrealistic climax where her rapist tries to rape her AGAIN, in public, and this time she fights back and he is brought to justice, yay! Ugh.
[END OF SPOILERS] I still recommend it if you're on a YA kick.
