You know what's a truly awful feeling? Seeing someone who has/had a crush on you, and thinking, "wow, I might feel really gross right now, but at least I'm going to give John Doe a total boner," and then John is totally nonplussed and ambivalent, and it's like, "well I don't even have that." Boner is a strong word but I bet you all know what I'm talking about here.
