Nothing like a brand new Filofax to remind you of the glory of a busy schedule and brand new school supplies, but also, the shuffling of your best years, slowly, quickly, ticking away.

It's been four months, Ghengis, and while you're gone, you're certainly not forgotten.

This is a short play I wrote about how the movie UP was written.

Two men, PIXAR EMPLOYEE 1 and PIXAR EMPLOYEE 2 are sitting around a table. They have been working all night, and are, despite being very tired, in a fabulous mood.

PIXAR EMPLOYEE 1: This is going to be even better than Wall-E.
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 2: I know, man. When we finished that montage with Ellie's death, even I was crying. And I haven't cried in ten years.
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 1: You don't think the bird's too much?
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 2: Nah. As long as it's not a major plot point or anything and it's just there for a little bit to show the boys' nurturing sides, I think it'll be fine.

The PRESIDENT OF PIXAR enters with his NEPHEW. The PIXAR EMPLOYEES rise.

PRESIDENT: Please, sit, sit.

They sit.

PRESIDENT: So, how's UP going so far?
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 2: It's going really well. The best one yet, I think.
PRESIDENT: Agreed, agreed. I saw some of the stills for the scene where the old man beats the guy in the truck and goes to court, and it's just so realistic. Totally heartbreaking.
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 1: Yeah, we were all pretty proud of that one.

There is a long pause.

PRESIDENT: You've met my nephew Toby, right?
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 1: Yeah, Toby! I remember you interned on Cars - nice to see you again!
NEPHEW: I helped do some of the early character development in Wall-E, too, for the Jeff Garlin character. Remember?
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 2: Oh, right, Toby!

A longer pause.

PRESIDENT: So, Toby's good. He's really good. He just needs a chance.

The PIXAR EMPLOYEES look at each other nervously.

PRESIDENT: I want Toby to write the movie from hereon in. You've set it up so well, and he's such a good writer...he has some great ideas, and this should be a piece of cake for him.
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 2: I dunno, boss - we've started talking about what happens next, and we've got some great ideas about Carl dealing with own mortality, his body breaking down while they're in South America...
PRESIDENT: I think you should listen to what Toby has to say.
NEPHEW: Well, I was thinking. You know the famous painting Three Dogs Playing Poker? I was thinking it'd be really funny to set up a visual image of that in the movie.
PRESIDENT (laughing): Ha! That's a good one, right?
PIXAR EMPLOYEE 1: But there aren't any dogs in the movie.
NEPHEW: Well, not yet...

I love, love, love dogs. But I was not sold on the last two thirds of this movie. I know it's hard to critize something featuring a house floating by balloons on lacking reality, but come on.

Bonus round: four small dogs I would like. All of these dogs have the quality where whenever I see one I smile so big, they are all so funny and appealing looking.

Dream dog breeds (*"breeds" connotes a lack of "scrappy rescue mutt" as an option, which would obviously be an ideal choice)

5. Thickish/fattish yellow/white lab

4. Great Pyranees (pictured: HOMER)

3. Golden Retriever

2. St. Bernard

1. Bernese Mountain Dog, number one always and 4ever

Just missed the cut: I really like rottweilers' coloring and their nubby tails but they have scary teeth and snarls

Recent mid-early-twenties-crisis: moving to Berlin and being a barista, English tutor for the very rich and precocious, or even better, a dog-walker.

Museum of the Moving Image is free (with a suggested donation), has a movie theater inside as old props and costume from seemingly random sources who donated and vintage Joker-print Converse, "Kissing You" playing, and a billion interactive exhibits. Like: you can make stop-animation art, a flipbook of yourself dancing, and dub over My Fair Lady with either the correct line - "the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain" - or "cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt."

Also over break: saw The Wrestler, painted kitchen and am sewing curtains, and went to the Bronx Zoo and saw seals fed and African Wild Dogs.

We won at Improdome at the PIT, which is sort of a dubious honor. Note that they got our name wrong, which doesn't really matter, since my emotional investment ultimately left after Caitlin wouldn't let us enter under "Poo's On First." But: my first time doing comedy as a "grown up" New Yorker. What an exciting Carrie Bradshaw moment!

I just found out that the couple in our building who has a Bernese Mountain Dog also has a Great Pyranees! Iwantoneiwantoneiwantone.

I never thought I'd see the day when Daily Puppy turned to smut:

"I want you to draw me like one of your French girls, Jack. Wearing this... and only this."

So I accidentally cut off my bangs on Friday night? According to my theory, one out of every four girls in the world can correctly cut hair based on feminine intuition alone. I thought I was that "one." I'm actually one of the 75 percent.

Before I cut off my bangs I won a contest at Work #2 to see who could convince and harangue the most customers to sign up for an email list. Winning made me feel sleazy and cheesy. I used the Urban Outfitters gift card to buy these:

Fingerless gloves, like Stephen Colbert or the White Stripes or Pinkberry, are really really popular for a reason.

Anything else? Oh yeah, Bodza the Hungarian golden retriever was the centerfold earlier this week on dailypuppy.com and he broke my heart.
